Lynnwood call me at: 206.351.7759 Have you wondered if Hypnosis can help you? I recently had a client come into my office with a crippling addiction to buying stuff. All kinds of stuff. It didn't matter if he needed it or would use it. If he saw it in a store he could not get the images out of his head until he bought whatever had caught his fancy. His shopping addiction was causing him a lot of distress, placing stress on his marriage, and wrecking his budget. In only one session we were able to figure out what was causing these pictures and feelings to be so persistent. We addressed the issue, at the core of his belief system, that was motivating this unwanted behavior and reframed it. I spoke to this gentleman about three weeks later and was delighted to learn that he had completely conquered his shopping addiction. Not all issues are addressed completely in only one session and many are. Give me a call today to discuss the issues you are interested in working on to find out if Hypnosis and NLP are appropriate for you.

Q & A Many people have questions about Hypnosis and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. I've written some of the more common ones below. If you find you have different questions or would just like to know more, I am available when I am not in session. I would be happy to speak with you. Q - What is Hypnosis – What if I can't be hypnotized? A - The truth about hypnosis is that it is a state that we all go into and out of many times during the day. That dreamy feeling just before sleep or waking is the state that we know as hypnotic trance, but it doesn't have to be even that profound. Examples of this would be the kind of concentration that one may experience while reading a book, using your computer, or watching television. Perhaps you have had the experience of being shocked out of a good book or television show by someone insisting that they have been speaking to you while you didn't seem to notice. Or perhaps you’ve experienced driving your car and when you arrived at your destination you realized you weren’t quite sure you remembered the drive that got you there. Q - Could I get stuck in a trance? Is it safe? A - Hypnosis is as safe as a night's sleep. Even if you were in an extremely profound trance and the hypnotist were to leave you there alone, you would simply drift into normal sleep and wake up when you rested. Q - Does NLP really work? A - I think this is a question anyone who watches television can answer. These are the very techniques that advertisers use relentlessly to make you want that pizza they’re hocking, even though you just got up from a full meal. Or to have you replay their jingle every time you see their logo. Advertisers have learned that they can use your mind to replay a full minute long commercial in your head with as little as 15 seconds of air time. They spend millions of dollars every day hiring NLP specialist because they know very well how effective NLP & Hypnotic techniques are. Isn't it time you used these powerful tools to gain your goals? Q - What is Neuro-Linguistic Programming? A - In a nut shell, NLP is the science of understanding how we represent the world we live in to ourselves. More importantly, it is the study of how we can use that understanding to assist ourselves and others to gain the goals that we desire. The basic premise of NLP is this: the world as we know it is represented in our minds by concepts and memories collected through our senses of taste, smell, touch, hearing and sight. When I ask you, “What does your friend’s voice sound like?” you probable hear that person's voice in your head. You did not actually hear that person’s voice but you can access the memory of what it sounds like. When you hear that voice on the phone you know who is speaking even though you can’t see your friend. It’s something that you don’t need to relearn over and over, you just know. Huge parts of our day are spent accessing memories of how things are in the world rather than relearning things we know every time we encounter it. This works in our favor in that it saves us a lot of time, we know how to turn left and we just do it without questioning. Accessing previous experience in blocks of memories or representation also helps us to address new situations by allowing us to compare similar situations to new experiences and by allowing us to extrapolate new concepts or outcomes. The problems start when some of the information that we are accessing in this way is incorrect or inappropriate for our current life. Knowing this, and a bit about how this process works, allows the NLP practitioner to structure language in ways that help to surmount difficulties, enhance innate abilities, and redirect unwanted responses with choices that work better for us. It’s all rather fascinating really. To learn more about NLP might help you, give me a call or send me an email. Weight Loss & Hypnosis Hypnosis Helps You Lose More Weight. Here are some of the best examples of hypnosis/weight loss studies. Keep in mind as you read that the same sort of results can be achieved with any behavior or learning. In a study of 60 women separated into hypnosis versus non-hypnosis groups, the groups using hypnosis lost an average of 17 pounds, while the non-hypnosis group lost an average of .5 pounds (Cochrane, Gordon; Friesen, J. (1986). Hypnotherapy in weight loss treatment. Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 54, 489-492). Hypnosis Lasts Adding hypnosis to other weight loss methods increased weight loss by an average of 97% during treatment, and increased the effectiveness post treatment by over 146%. Hypnosis continues to enhance weight loss results and the effect may grow stronger over time. (Kirsch, Irving (1996). Hypnotic enhancement of cognitive-behavioral weight loss treatments--Another meta-reanalysis. Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 64 (3), 517-519). In a 9-week study of two weight management groups (one using hypnosis and one not using hypnosis), the hypnosis group continued to get results in the two-year follow-up, while the non-hypnosis group showed no further results (Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1985).
